Sen. Stevens Exonerated!

The Jury verdict was ruled unlawful. The government's prosecutors was declared "stunning." False testimony was created and presented. The Justice Department finally dropped the case against Senator Stevens.

It's so easy to follow the media to label and call someone on misconduct. In this case the real misconduct was on the part of federal prosecutors. The media whiplash caused Senator Stevens to lose his seat by a slim margin. At least the Senator's name is cleared and he will go down as a legend in the state of Alaska. It's too bad that he had to lose his seat for the misconduct of others.

Sen. Ted Stevens Exonerated?
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123509358392428915.html

As the Wall Street Journal points out, the results of Sen. Stevens' trial are in limbo. It appears as if the young lawyers in charge of prosecuting him were overambitious and took unwarranted steps to make their case. At best, their case against Stevens is one of a low-grade felony - misrepresenting information on forms not the lobbying scandal it was made out to be. The media no longer cares about the Stevens fiasco and in some sense they aren't doing him justice. It is easy to get caught up in a witch-hunt, but the facts that come out later don't always justify the means at the time. The media crucified Sen. Stevens and he narrowly lost his seat as a result. I don't doubt that the Senator to fill his place will do his best to serve Alaska but in some sense we have witnessed the fall of a political giant at the hands of an overzealous and misinformed media machine. Sound like a familiar story?
